The War of the Spanish Succession (1700-15) was one of the most momentous in European history and brought an end to Hapsburg rule in Spain, with Louis XIV installing his nephew on the throne & his Bourbon descendant still reigning in Spain today. But the war also ended Louis XIV's drive for hegemony in Europe & bankrupted France, creating conditions that ultimately led to the French Revolution less than 75 years later.:
